WORKFORCE / JOB GROWTH
 
  Butler County, the Cincinnati – Dayton region is well suited for a wind turbine manufacturing operation because of it is established aeronautics, auto, and auto parts industries and the deep pool of experienced employees in those industries.  
     
  Middletown boldly going where no town has gone before Local facility that made Apollo heat shields gets $12 million deal for Orion spacecraft shields.  Magellan Aerospace Corp. was awarded the contract through the National Aeronautics Space Administration's prime contractor for production of the Orion, a spacecraft intended to replace the U.S. space shuttles and eventually be launched to the moon and Mars.   
     
  Another large U.S. government contract, this one worth $13 million, has been awarded to BAE Systems for the production of 100 armored commercial vehicles.  Company officials said the vehicles, mostly armored Chevrolet Surburbans and armored Sprinter vans, will be produced at their facilities in West Chester Twp.  
     
  Businesses pumped more investment dollars than ever before into Butler County in 2007, with $856 million in private capital projects flowing into the county over the year. County officials said the investment created 2,921 new jobs and retained 2,912 more, and more than 5.5 million square feet of commercial and industrial space was either leased or sold over the year.  
     
  AK Steel has approved a pact with SunCoke Energy Inc. which could lead to SunCoke building a $340 million coke and electrical plant in Middletown.
 
 
  The potential development of a new $300 million coke oven facility just off Ohio 4 shows AK Steel Corp.'s long-term commitment to Middletown, city officials say.
 
 
  Humana announces an estimated $23.4 million project  in West Chester that would create 335 new jobs with average salary of $55,000.  The mail order pharmacy operation will locate in one half of a brand new 280,000 square foot facility.
 
 
  Home Depot gets go ahead in Monroe - The project would bring 250 jobs in the first 18 months and an additional 350 jobs by 2009 with an estimated payroll of $14.9 million,  The new 657,000-sf Rapid Deployment Center is set to land in the Monroe Commerce Center behind Kohls and Xerox north of Ohio 63. 
 
 
  HVAC component manufacturer Systecon expands - The $2.5 million expansion would make room for manufacturing of new components, and would create an estimated 40 jobs with average salaries of $38,600 and retain 57 positions.

  More Than 9,300 New Jobs Were Created in Butler County Ohio During the Three–year Period Between 2004 and 2006. Hamilton, OH, March 26, 2007 — The Butler County Board of Commissioners reported today that 3,116 new jobs were created in the County during 2006 bringing the total number of new jobs created during the 2004 – 2006 period to 9,375.  
  Biopharmaceutical company Amylin purchased $4.5 million in acreage next to its West Chester Twp. facility in February. General Manager John Pratt said the company is considering building a packaging facility on its new 17 acres along Trade Port Drive, next to the facility already under construction on 27 acres purchased in December 2005.  
  Butler County, Ohio was ranked as the best performing Ohio metro area for job creation in the Milken Institute’s 2004 Best Performing Cities Index.  
     
  Record Number of New Jobs Created in Butler County, Ohio  
     
  Butler County led Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky in keeping old jobs and attracting new ones last year, officials say, partly because the county is "geographically blessed" and has development-friendly policies.  
     
  2004 Job Growth and Investment in Butler County, Ohio More than Doubles the Combined Total Growth for the Previous Two Years.  
     
  The Cincinnati USA Partnership’s 2004 Regional Growth Report showed Butler County leading the three-state, 15-county region with projects that will create an estimated 3,115 jobs and capital investments of about $365 million.

  GE to invest $55 million in West Chester, Butler County Consolidated engineering division would have 1,400 employees.  By the numbers: GE Aviation's move to West Chester Twp.  Investment: $55 million - Number of employees: 1,400 total (1,000 from Cincinnati offices, remainder from West Chester Twp. office) - Average employees' annual salary: $100,000  - Proposed tax abatement: 100 percent for the duration of the lease (10-15 years), equivalent to about $200,000 a year in property taxes to West Chester -  Twp.  Potential tax revenue from JEDD: Up to $1 million per year.     
  Matandy plans to invest about $2.2 million to build a 30,000-35,000 square foot steel manufacturing facility in Hamilton, Ohio for the company's new business venture under the name J.N. Linrose Mfg., said Frank Pfirman, president of Matandy Steel.  
  Smart Papers breaks ground on $30 million project to produce North America's most environmentally responsible premium printing papers in the City of Hamilton.  
  Project will total 1.68 million SF in four buildings - DCT Industrial and CB Richard Ellis announced the Port Union Commerce Park development in Fairfield and West Chester Township.
